The Ayla Grand Hotel, located in the heart of Al Ain, is the first 5-star property of Ayla Hotels & Resorts. It was specifically space planned and designed to cater to guests from the neighboring GCC countries, offering a luxurious and culturally attuned hospitality experience.
Designing the hammam spa at the Ayla Grand Hotel required careful consideration to ensure that the infrastructure and services aligned with Islamic standards and norms, as the hotel caters specifically to guests from GCC countries. Key challenges and considerations included:
Ensuring that all food and beverages served within the spa and hotel are halal-certified, with no alcohol available on the premises.
Designing separate spa and recreational facilities for men and women to maintain privacy and adhere to modesty guidelines.
One of the main challenges was creating a hammam space that could be used exclusively by either male or female guests at designated times. To achieve this, the design required a strategic approach to circulation, access points, and scheduling, ensuring smooth transitions between uses while maintaining privacy. This balance allowed the hammam spa to provide a luxurious experience that respects and upholds cultural and religious values.
I created distinct individual entrances into the male and female areas of the spa facilities, with discreet circulation routes to maintain privacy and adhere to modesty guidelines.
A strategic approach was implemented to allow the hammam space to be used exclusively by either male or female guests at designated times. This included careful planning of circulation, access points, and scheduling to ensure smooth transitions while maintaining privacy.
Through thoughtful planning and culturally sensitive design, we successfully created a luxurious hammam experience that aligns with the operational needs of the hotel and the cultural expectations of its GCC guests.
